Big congrats to CFR athlete, Brandon Watkins, who is our July Spotlight Athlete! Brandon has been a steady and committed member of CrossFit Rolesville for quite some time now and his dedication has definitely paid off! He has shown great determination, growth, and overall will to do his very best. Brandon always comes in smiling, does work, supports his fellow CrossFitters, and leaves accomplished. We couldn’t be prouder as coaches to see the progress Brandon has made and couldn’t be happier as friends to have him apart of our CFR community!


“Crossfit was something that I wanted to try for a long time before working up the courage
to actually give it a shot. Like with anything new, the fear of failure was extremely intimidating. You and Thomas do an incredible job of making others feel welcome inside your gym, and have fostered a culture of inclusivity, regardless of crossfit ability. It is this environment and culture that made it easy for me to make coming to crossfit a routine part of my schedule. I appreciate all that you guys do! Proudest accomplishment at CrossFit Rolesville?

There’s been several, and I’m not sure I can rank them. PR’ing my first workout is definitely up there. Also, my first rope climb, and handstand push up. Watching Thomas demonstrate those movements prior to the workout, I was thinking to myself, “there’s no way I can do that”. So, to get up and do it was a proud moment.

How did you find CFR? Why do you train?

I drove past Crossfit Rolesville everyday for almost 6 months or so. I had friends that had done, or were currently doing crossfit, and had told me I should give it a shot.

The biggest reason I work out is definitely for my family. I have a two year old daughter, and another daughter on the way (due in November). I want to make sure I am maintaining a level of health and fitness that will allow me to watch them grow and not miss any of their major life milestones. I also workout because it is a great stress reliever!

What is your favorite moment so far at CFR?

Participating in this years Memorial Day Murph was awesome!

What is your daily motivation to workout?

Again, just to ensure that I am maintaining a certain level of health and fitness, and also to relieve stress. Outside of spending time with my family, the hour that I spend with at CFR is the best part of my day, and something that I look forward to daily. 

Favorite and least favorite movements?

Favorite: Snatch; Least Favorite: Rowing. I hate rowing. Also, 30 inch box jumps. The boxes are very unforgiving on the shins.

What’s one thing you would tell to a new CrossFitter?

Just do it. I drove past Crossfit Rolesville for 6 months or so before working up the courage to try it, and I knew after the first class that this something that I wanted to do. Also, you’re going to be sore, very sore, at the beginning. Fight through it, and after a while the soreness becomes more bearable.

One song that gets you amped up during a WOD?

Anything rap, new or old, will help me pick it up during the workout.
