SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE: Brittany Woodle

For the December Spotlight Athlete, we’ve chosen an “OG” to our CrossFit Rolesville family…Brittany Woodle (aka. BWOO!)! Brittany has been with our community pretty much from the start and quickly became a familiar face in class and at all of our events. Not only is she a great athlete, but she’s an even better cheerleader to her fellow CFR athletes. Brittany tries to make it to any competition someone is participating in, always cheering on others at any CFR event, and never fails to compliment or fist bump everyone in class! She listens to coach’s cues and always keeps grinding, no matter how hard the WOD may be that day. We are extremely proud to call her a CFR athlete and even more proud to call her a friend!

Age: 28, yes I know.. I’ve been called an old soul my whole life!

Occupation: Registered Nurse/ ER

Proudest accomplishment at CrossFit Rolesville?

All new PRs make me feel proud. Not just for myself, but for all my CFR family! I love watching people learn new things at the gym.

How did you find CFR? Why do you train?

I drove by very often and always wanted to try. I was intimidated because I had never picked up a barbell before (and now that’s my favorite part). Jeff and Elysia Langston told me how awesome the coaching was, so I gave it a shot. I love it so much and I wish I had time to go EVERYDAY!

I train for myself and my family. I want to live a healthy life and show my kids that fitness is a big part of it, in hopes they will make it a big part of theirs (my daughter already does).

What is your favorite moment so far at CFR?

I have really enjoyed all the Friday Night Lights. I truly get inspired watching each athlete learn a new movement or hit a new weight with our CFR family all there to witness!

What is your daily motivation to workout?

My kids! I hope to be around for them and their kids a long, long time. In my field of work I see everyday those that take care of themselves and those that do not. Movement in any form, not just Crossfit, does so much good to the body. I hope to stay active and moving for as long as my body will let me.

Favorite and least favorite movements?

This is a tough question because I am just as much a cheerleader to the sport as I am an athlete. My favorite movement to watch is hands down the SNATCH! I have cried watching the games athletes PR snatches! It’s such a beautiful movement to me when done right! I, myself need a lot of work on my snatch, but it’s definitely a huge goal of mine to get better at.

Cleans, I love cleans. I feel the most comfortable in doing cleans, so I’m gonna call it “my favorite” for now!

Least favorite CrossFit movement would have to be double unders. I cannot, for the life of me, get a rhythm for this movement! I’ve been stuck on single-double-single-double for far too long and have not progressed. I think/know it’s all in my head, but still I would call it my least favorite!

What’s one thing you would tell to a new CrossFitter?

Just come on in and give it a try, you’re almost guaranteed to fall in love the first day!  And then I would definitely tell them to be patient and give it time!  Jackie is my very close friend and biggest inspiration! I’ve watched her stay consistent and be very patient with herself, and she motivates me daily to do the same (which is very hard for me sometimes). Nevertheless, I’d say come see what your body is capable of learning!

One song that gets you amped up during a WOD?

Oddly enough, before doing Crossfit my music would determine my level of motivation in the gym, the dirtier the rap or the harder the rock, the better I would perform in the gym. Now, when doing Crossfit, I cannot hear the music over my loud breathing during workouts! I couldn’t tell you what we listen to!  I CAN tell you if it’s something I like, Thomas will change it! Lol jk jk!

Tell us something about yourself that we don’t already know.

Well, I am pretty boring and this was a hard question for me so I ask my husband, Dustin.  He replied quickly with “you ride dirt bikes, and not many girls can”.  So, I guess that’s something interesting? I got my first dirt bike at 11 and have been riding since. Actually turned my husband on to them BIG TIME and my son loves to ride too!
