We are extremely excited to announce that the October Spotlight Athlete is Kara Collins! Kara has become quite the regular at CrossFit Rolesville; consistently attending class, frequently participating in clinics, and always showing up to CFR socials! She has shown great strides in her fitness and continues to better herself by taking cues from her coaches and working on her weaknesses at open gym. Kara is incredibly friendly and will never shy away from a tough workout. We are proud to have Kara at CrossFit Rolesville!

Age: 35…okay… I feel 35, but just had a birthday…I am 54.

Occupation: Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I work for Easterseals UCP as a Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST) Therapist.

Proudest accomplishment at CrossFit Rolesville?

There are a lot…Breaking the 200lb ‘barrier’ in a deadlift, making the decision to participate in the Fall Brawl and the Open, the list is extensive!

How did you find CFR?

I was looking for something to do physically and my “at home” workouts weren’t satisfying. I considered CrossFit, but was too intimidated. One morning I decided ‘today is the day’, and went online to check out CFR and other boxes in the area. When I read that Thomas was a Marine, I decided I’d schedule an appointment with CFR and to look no further.

Why do you train?

I train solely for me and my physical/emotional well-being. Plus, I want to set an example for my daughters.

What is your favorite moment so far at CFR?

There are so many! I love watching others achieve success with things they thought were out of reach.

What is your daily motivation to workout?

I exercise because somehow completely exhausting myself is the most relaxing part of my day. Crossfit is also a huge challenge for me and takes me out of my comfort zone…so pushing my limits—even though I might complain, is motivation for me.

Favorite and least favorite movements?

Favorite…deadlifts and surprisingly I am starting to love cleans. Least…anything overhead.

What’s one thing you would tell a new CrossFitter?

Don’t compare yourself to others and their abilities. You will be embarking on a new journey—enjoy it, challenge yourself, have fun along the way, and don’t give up!

One song that gets you amped up during a WOD?

I don’t have a single favorite. I like the playlists Coaches Megan, Thomas, and Peter play.

Tell us something about yourself that we don’t already know.

Many of you already know I am a Marine, but you may not know that I have flown the AH-1 Cobra helicopter.
