SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE: Marin Fothergill

This month we’d like to congratulate Marin Fothergill as our June Spotlight Athlete! We’ve had the privilege of watching Marin grow stronger and stronger as an athlete since she joined CrossFit Rolesville. She is one of the most consistent members (even with a broken pinky) and rarely misses a WOD with her 9am’ers. Her attitude is always positive and she is constantly encouraging others in class. Marin puts in the hard work and is always involved in our CFR community, which we admire so much! We are incredibly proud to call Marin a friend and CrossFit Rolesville athlete.

Age: 41 (or 42 if you post this after June 7th.)

Occupation:  Stay-at-Home Mom

Proudest accomplishment at CrossFit Rolesville?

I don’t know, CFR has given me so many! I never would have expected that in my 40s I would be the strongest Ive ever been, be able to do strict Pull-Ups (I never in my life could do even a single one before CFR), Deadlift over 200#s, Squat Clean 140#.. the list goes on!!

How did you find CFR? Why do you train?

My son Hudson!  He loved CFR and Crossfit and begged me to try it.. one class and I was hooked!  Eventually I lured David in with Saturday Partner WODS (though we have since been banned from being partners)!  I train because I LOVE it and for my own sanity!

What is your favorite moment so far at CFR?

Friday Night Lights 19.4 Open workout watching my girls Jackie and Megan get their first muscle-ups!! I may or may not get choked up every time I see the video or pictures from that night!

What is your daily motivation to workout?

To stay healthy and HAPPY for my family…. and my 9 o’clockers!!  I love all my CFR Family but my 9’oclock crew keep me going (or make me even when I’m in a mood)!

Favorite and least favorite movements?

Least favorite (everyone knows) T2B and Favorite movements are Cleans and Burpee Box Jump Overs (I know, I’m weird.. they used to be my least favorite so there is hope for T2B)!

What’s one thing you would tell a new CrossFitter?

Listen to your coaches, learn proper technique and the heavy weights and movements will come… and have FUN!  A little friendly competition is good but whats the point if you aren’t laughing and enjoying yourself?!?!

One song that gets you amped up during a WOD?

Give me some old school rap… Biggie, 2Pac, Missy or Puff Daddy (Yes that was his name back in my day).

Tell us something about yourself that we don’t already know.

I was born with Hip Dysplasia and had surgery to fix it at 18 months old.. which was the last time I had surgery until the unfortunate pinky incident.
