We are starting off 2019 with spotlighting an extremely awesome and tenacious athlete, Steve Derosa! He and his amazing wife, Joanne, have been members for over a year and play big roles in our CFR community. Steve may look a little stern, but he is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. His work schedule occasionally makes it a little hard for him to get to class, but when he’s there, Steve gives it his all, aims to learn more, and constantly strives to do better. Steve is always one to cheer on others in class and never backs away from the tough workouts. We absolutely love having Steve (and Joanne!) apart of our CrossFit Rolesville family!

Proudest accomplishment at CrossFit Rolesville?  Completing the Murph hero WOD with all my fellow CFR people and then again in the fall brawl!!!  Love seeing our gym/community coming together and pushing each other thru the workouts.

How did you find CFR? Why do you train?  Actually my wife Joanne found CrossFit Rolesville first after we left our other gym. She loved it so I joined too and haven’t looked back.

What is your favorite moment so far at CFR? Besides this honor?!?  It has to be me making PR’s and FINALLY doing a metcon at RX.

What is your daily motivation to workout?  My true daily motivation for working out like I do is to keep up with my wife, Joanne, and her hard work and dedication. As corny as that may sound, she truly pushes me with her devotion and dedication to the gym. I also enjoy seeing and working out with all of you and watching us grow stronger together.

Favorite and least favorite movements?  Man, this one is a tough one. I would have to say without question, my LEAST favorite movement is the snatch. I have such issues doing them with bad shoulders and just can’t get all the dynamics down to do them correctly. My favorite movement would be either rowing or deadlifts, it’s a toss up for me

What’s one thing you would tell to a new CrossFitter?  STICK WITH IT!!!! The rewards are great. The pain sucks in the beginning  but when you get your first PR or do your first RX workout it is so gratifying. Don’t ever stop pushing yourself!!!!

One song that gets you amped up during a WOD?  Any old school Rock or Hip hop. I love to hear R&B. It gets me going…lol.

Tell us something about yourself that we don’t already know.  I was at Ground zero on 9/11 before the second tower fell and stayed there for several months straight doing search and rescue. I also counseled several hundred people since I am a grief and crisis counselor.
